Horse on Crook Peak

Mendip Hills – Wavering Down & Crook Peak

Starting off in Kings  Wood my parents and I began the 6 mile circular walk around Wavering Down. It was a beautiful spring day with the sun beaming down and no wind to steal the warmth from us. Once we reached Crook Peak we shared the views with some hillside ponies who were looking for treats and received a tasty apple from some walkers next to us. We continued on, down into the village of Compton Bishop, through farm fields, some filled with grazing cattle; and then into Cross where we had a pint of ale in the White Hart Inn.

Making our way back to Kings Wood we finished off our walk through a train tunnel on the disused Cheddar Valley Railway, also known as the Strawberry line. The day had taken us into woodland, across hillside and through quaint English villages. The perfect setting for a walk with the folks.
